Three New VCAP Design Certifications Available

On behalf of the certification development team I am pleased to announce the availability of three new VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) certification exams. These design certifications validate your ability to design and integrate VMware solutions within your large enterprise environments. They improve your credibility among your peers and prove that you have a deep understanding of design principles and methodologies.

You can now register for and schedule these exams for any available date after August 7. Also, these exams will be available for 50% off at VMworld 2017.

  1. Does anyone actually proof read the exam guides? The 2nd/3rd paragraph of the VCAP7-DTM and VCAP6.5-DCV are near identical – why do i need to know about WorkSpaceONE, Thinprint et al for DCV??!?!?

    1. Hi Chris, we were placing the Exam Guides into a single template just before posting, and I imagine it was simply a copy/paste error. I have asked my team to fix.

      Thanks,
      Karl

  2. I was planning on taking the VCAP6-DTM Design exam at VMworld to get VCIX6-DTM. This is because I already have VCAP-DTA.

With that said, Can I theoretically bypass the VCAP6-DTM Design exam and do this new VCAP7-DTM Design Exam and qualify for VCIX7-DTM if I have an existing VCAP-DTA?

    1. Hi Erick,

The upgrade paths work for migrating to the next version only. Going from VCAP-DTA to VCAP7 is a two version jump (skipping the v6), and so wouldn’t work with the single exam. You would need the prerequisite VCAP6-DTM or VCP7-DTM in order to earn the VCAP7-DTM.

      Great question though…

      Thanks,
      Karl

    1. Hi Konrad, you can earn the VCAP7-CMA Design if you have either one of these:
      – VCP7-CMA (the standard prerequisite)
      – VCAP6-CMA Design or Deploy (using the upgrade path)

The VCDX6-CMA doesn’t apply directly to the VCAP prerequisites; however, most likely, VCDX’s will have either one or both of those already, as they achieved them on their path to VCDX.

      Thanks,
      Karl

    1. Hi Benja,

The exam objectives are the level that the exam items are written to, which is why you see it listed at that level. We do have the deeper sub-objectives in our development docs…let me talk to the team to determine how to add those in for additional detail.

      Thanks,
      Karl

    1. Hi Chris, there will be new VCIX, but won’t be available until the Deploy exams are released later this year. Once both VCAPs are available, the VCIX badge will be released as well.

      Thanks,
      Karl

      1. Hi Karl,

Can you confirm if there will be a VCIX-DCV 6.5 or will it be VCIX DCV 6,as the VCAP5 DCA and DCD were based at different times on 5.0,5.1 and 5.5 but the certification remained as VCAP5 not VCAP5.1 or VCAP5.5

I am wondering if a VCIX-DCV 6 will need to upgrade to VCIX DCV 6.5 or if they will remain fully up to date certification wise?

        Thanks,

        John.

        1. Hi John, there will be a VCIX6.5. Although they’re both 6.x versions, the 6.5 really is a new version and acts independently, just like it would if it was a v7.

It’ll most likely be available when the new 6.5 Deploy exam releases.

          Thanks,
          Karl

  3. Hi Karl,

I am currently VCAP6-DCV Deploy certified. Can I sit for the new VCAP6.5-DCV Design exam and get the VCIX6 badge?

    1. Hi, yes, the combination of the Deploy and Design VCAP certifications will earn you the VCIX. Note that this logic is still being implemented so is not immediate.

      Thanks,
      Karl

    1. Hi Basit, yes, that will get you the VCIX7-CMA, since it is based on the most current version of the VCAP you have earned. Note that we haven’t yet released that VCIX, but will soon. It will then show up on your transcript.

      Thanks,
      Karl

  4. Hi,
    i currently have a VCP6-CMA
Will i earn the VCIX7-CMA by passing the following-
    VCAP7-CMA Design
    VCAP7-CMA Deploy (Whenever it comes)

    1. Hi John,

That is correct. It hasn’t quite rolled out, as our initial intent was to release it at the same time as the VCAP6.5-DCV Deploy. But I’m moving that up, so it’ll come out in the next few weeks and be awarded to all those who have met the requirements already.

      Thanks,
      Karl

  5. Hello Karl,

I am looking at the comment chain and trying to understand one point for sure before I go test again. If I already have VCAP-DCV 6 Deploy passed and I go ahead and take the VCAP-DCV 6.5 Design exam will I be a VCIX-DCV 6, VCIX-DCV 6.5, or neither?

    1. Hi William, you will then receive the VCIX 6.5 – DCV badge. It maps to the most current version of the VCAP you have earned.

      1. Awesome thanks I just wanted to verify! Also just to confirm one thing I forgot to ask in the original post I made. The requirements for VCAP 6.5 Design for existing candidates Path 1 says “If you hold a VCAP6-DCV certification and a valid VCP certification”. It does not specify the VCP version. Does it need to be VCP6.5 or can it be VCP6?

        1. As long as your VCP is current (meaning not expired) and you already have the VCAP6-DCV Deploy certification, you are good to earn the VCAP6.5-DCV Design. In general, if your VCP has not expired, regardless of its version, and you’ve already earned a VCAP, you can continue to earn the new versions at the VCAP level without having to retake any VCP exams.
