Today at AWS re:Invent 2018, VMware announced the Initial Availability of VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US) – in other words, bringing VMware Cloud on AWS to the AWS GovCloud (US) Region. This means we are now in a total of 10 AWS regions across 34 AWS Availability Zones globally. In addition, we are also announcing new capabilities for VMware Cloud on AWS.
Today at VMworld 2018, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) and VMware, announced Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) on VMware. Amazon RDS on VMware is a service that will make it easy for customers to set up, operate, and scale databases in VMware-based software-defined data centers and hybrid environments and to migrate them to AWS or VMware Cloud on AWS. Amazon RDS on VMware automates database management regardless of where the database is deployed, freeing up customers to focus on developing and tuning their applications. Announcing VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US), a forthcoming hybrid cloud service that will enable United States public sector agencies to leverage a common cloud infrastructure on premises and in the public cloud to further increase agility and security. VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US), which is on the path to secure FedRAMP authority to operate, was designed to improve IT efficiency and help lower costs as agencies transition to the cloud by enabling them to deploy and run applications on familiar VMware software-defined data centers (SDDC) on AWS GovCloud (US).
Delivered, sold and supported by VMware and its channel partners as an on-demand cloud service, and running on Amazon EC2 dedicated, elastic, bare-metal infrastructure, VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US) will be powered by VMware Cloud Foundation, the unified SDDC platform that integrates vSphere, VMware vSAN, and VMware NSX virtualization technologies.

Building on the momentum from the exciting announcement at VMworld 2017 US, against the backdrop of AWS Re:invent 2017, VMware and AWS announced that VMware CloudTM on AWS is now available in the AWS US East (N. Virginia) region. In addition to bringing this service to a new region, we are also introducing a rich set of capabilities that enable customers to migrate, run, and protect production applications at scale.
We recently doubled the number of partners we are working with across all types – including technology partners, SISOs, MSPs, and solution providers. Today, technology partners can test their solutions on VMware Cloud on AWS through the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP) program. As discussed at Partner Exchange @ VMworld 2017, we are working towards the delivery of new VMware Partner Network (VPN) Cloud offerings supporting VMware Cloud on AWS for our RTM partners (SISOs, solution providers, and MSPs). This offering will be available in Q1’FY19 and it will provide partners with incentives and benefits to reward those partners who develop services and drive consumption for VMware Cloud on AWS.
