New Solutions Announced for SDDC

Research indicates that the Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) is going mainstream, as customers move from virtualizing compute to implementing storage and network virtualization. Last week VMware announced new enhancements to its Unified Platform for the Hybrid Cloud that will help customers successfully leverage a consistent SDDC architecture across the public and private cloud. Visit the Quarterly Partner Briefing portal and access the SDDC Launch Playbook to learn more about all of these offerings:

  • VMware vSphere 6 Update 1 now includes Web Client integration with vSphere Update Manager and new upgrade and deployment features for use with the vCenter Server Appliance.

  • NSX 6.2 introduces a new use case, additional integration with physical workloads, and an expanded partner ecosystem.
  • Site Recovery Manager 6.1 introduces new enterprise-level features that deliver a new level of availability and mobility for the private cloud environments.
  • Integrated OpenStack 2.0 is now even easier to deploy in vSphere-based cloud environments globally.

A new approach to the SDDC hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) leverages the hypervisor to deliver compute, networking, and shared storage from a single x86 server platform. Announcements include:

  • Virtual SAN 6.1 provides high performance and increased scale to support enterprise-class storage for all virtualized workloads, including business-critical and high availability demanding workloads.
  • EVO SDDC is a software suite to build and operate a private cloud based on a SDDC architecture.
