Mitel Business Conference Update

Doug SmithI spent a few days at the Mitel Business Partner Conference in San Diego last week delivering a keynote presentation and learning about the future of Unified Communications (UC). A major focus for VMware and our partners this year is virtualization of business critical applications; like Oracle or Microsoft Exchange. A major focus for Mitel this year is virtualizing UC. Can you think of a more business critical application than your communication system?  

 The 1,500 Mitel Partners that descended upon San Diego last week learned how VMware and Mitel are working together to virtualize UC. From the virtualization of server based applications like voice mail and call recording; all the way to desktop applications like Mitel UC360 Collaboration Point, we are working together on end to end virtualization of UC.

Mitel is a strategic VMware partner and a longstanding VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP). We collaborate on development to create innovative virtualized solutions for the UC market. In the field, Mitel leads with virtualization when selling their UC solutions, and drives VMware through mutual VMware resellers.

As an example, the CEO for Casa Grande Regional Medical Center, Rona Curphy, revealed how the company moved from a dated physical PBX to a new Mitel system built on Casa Grande's VMware foundation. Not only did the new solution lower their costs, it added enhanced functionally to their communications systems that they had not envisioned.

If you are an IT infrastructure solutions provider or a communications solutions provider the message from Mitel executives and industry luminaries like Gartner’s Tiffani Bova is clear. There is massive convergence between the infrastructure and communications platforms and virtualization is the foundation to make this happen. A huge opportunity is in front of all of us to help our customers virtualize their unified communications and other business critical applications. Make 2012 the year to seize this opportunity.

Is your Summer Checklist Finalized?

Looks like you are not quite ready to say, “bon voyage” just yet.

As part of the migration to the My VMware portal, we are asking all Partners to enter an "Entitlement Account" (EA) number on all purchase orders for existing customers. If your customer has transacted with VMware before, they will have an EA number and can find it by logging on to the My VMware portal. In the event that you do not receive an EA number from your customer, you can use the Partner EA Lookup Tool to search for your customer's correct EA number.

Consulting and Integration Partner Program Launches

Doug Smith As VMware continues to help propel the rapid growth of cloud computing, we’re strengthening our go-to-market partnering strategy to capitalize on the massive cloud-based services opportunities for our Partners. Today, I am pleased to announce the launch of our newest VMware Partner Network program -  the Consulting and Integration Partner Program, or “CIPP”, which expands our focus and Partner investments in driving deeper, richer services partnerships across the VMware Partner Network.

According to Forrester, the global IT spending on private cloud services is projected to grow to $41.5B by 2015. We believe CIP partners are uniquely positioned to capitalize on this opportunity because of their deep expertise and Trusted Advisor status they earned with their customers.

The combination of public and private cloud environments is driving a tremendous amount of architectural and application integration/migration work. This includes delivering cloud-based business-critical applications and infrastructure that allows service partners not only to differentiate themselves, but also maximizes the value of their offerings while promoting a new business model. We recognize that moving to a cloud-based platform can present new challenges for service partners.

VMware has been named a winner in the 2012 ChannelPro-SMB Readers’ Choice Awards in the category of Best Virtualization Vendor, as well as a runner-up in the categories of Vendor Partner Program: Best Sales Support, Vendor Partner Program: Best Technical Support, and Vendor Partner Program: Best Training Programs.

Readers of ChannelPro-SMB were invited to participate in the channel's first SMB-focused Readers' Choice Awards by casting their votes for the most SMB- and partner-friendly products, technologies, services, programs, and professional organizations in the channel today, via the publication's website. For each category, readers were asked to select the option that best satisfies the unique business requirements, work styles, and budgets of their small and midsize business clients, as well asthose that best serve their own partner organizations.Readerschoice

The multiple-choice survey, which provided space for write-in responses, was fielded in Q1 2012 and drew participation from nearly 1,000 VARs, MSPs, systems integrators, custom builders, and IT consultants in the channel.
