Last Minute Tips for Closing out a Successful Quarter with VMware

Sandra Cheek In my role here at VMware, I am no longer in sales. But that doesn’t mean that I’m exempt from the pressure to deliver and the witnessing of the flurry of activity between departments to sign contracts and agreements needed to bring on new customers ahead of calendar deadlines, and well, to essentially close any and all business at the quarter’s end.

We also know that our partners dread daily phone calls at the 11th hour from their vendors – adding pressure to an already busy time!

I’m always looking for tips to share with you to make your business transactions with VMware more successful. So if you read this posting this week, great timing! If not, it’s good advice for Q4.

I asked some of my sales colleagues if they had any tips for closing out a successful Q3 and as you can imagine, they certainly do. Andy Hunt, our Vice President of EMEA Channels and Alliances had a very clear message which was to ‘close everything’-specifically your Advantage+ registered opportunities. As a communications pro, I like simple and clear messaging, and Andy has delivered this.

Our Vice President of Americas Sales, Brandon Sweeney, touched on the tremendous opportunity vSphere has to offer, reminding partners that vSphere is one of the highest ROI technology investments a customer can make. He also mentioned that vCops should be a part of every vSphere quote, and don’t forget to include training credits too! Almost 50% of our transactional business is identified and closed in the same quarter. So while there are only a few days left in the quarter, there is still a lot of business that can be closed. Brandon had a specific message for our U.S Fed partners, which was to ‘capture all the fiscal year end dollars now’.

Be sure to log into Partner Central  for your PBM’s contact information, sales tools, revenue calculators and a lot of great information that will help you close business!  Also, if you haven’t checked out the VMware Partner Virtual Experience Platform , I strongly encourage you to do so-here you’ll find the most up-to-date partner training and product information-the platform closes on 9/30, so don’t wait.

Thanks for your continued support and here’s to a successful end of quarter!

The Virtualization Security Industry takes another Leap Forward with vShield 5

JaredByrd_headshot VMware vShield 5 is now generally available. As part of VMware’s Cloud Infrastructure Suite, vShield provides virtualization-aware security that improves your customers’ cloud agility, lowers cost & complexity, and accelerates IT compliance.

Now is the perfect time to talk to that CISO that wasn’t in the last Cloud strategy meeting you had with your customer. Time to talk to the small business owner about keeping their business secure in a mobile & socially connected world. Time to ask the tough questions. Time to help your customers protect their organization from over *95,000+ malicious programs that are released every day (one every 0.9 seconds) and where the “bad guys” are no longer just looking for notoriety but to for financial gain. It’s a perfect time to help your customer build trust in their cloud.

vShield 5 includes:

• vShield Edge – Secure the edge of the Virtual Data Center
• New! vShield App & Data Security –  Discovers & classifies sensitive information within VMs, reducing risk
• vShield Endpoint (included with vShield App) – Offloads Anti Virus
• New! vShield Bundle – All vShield products can be purchased together as a comprehensive suite

Ease of use and simplicity are key in vShield 5 – here’s some of the latest and greatest:
• Dynamic discovery and classification of sensitive information to help reduce risk of data theft and leakage.
• Routing enhancements and security policy management improvements to reduce deployment complexity.
• Adaptive trust zones to securely isolate applications with different trust levels all the way from Layer 2 to Layer 7.
• Role based access control (RBAC) for clear separation of workflow for virtualization and security administrators.
• Application aware firewalling for common applications improves security.
• Flexible IP addressing simplifies provisioning.
• Policy Management enhancements allows logical grouping of physical and virtual objects.
