Finding the Best Partner to Guide Your Virtualization Journey

Maureen_lonergan_72x100 Maureen Lonergan: Today, virtualization of the data center is so much more than a one-off implementation to reduce the amount of physical servers a company has in the data center. VMware Partners are helping customers deliver virtualization solutions to maximize IT resources, lower energy use, ensure high-availability of applications, implement disaster recovery solutions as well as guiding them to scalable and flexible solutions the cloud has to offer.

Finding the right partner is important as customers build their Virtualization Strategy. VMware understands how important it is to provide our partners with best-of-breed training so that our partners are highly skilled in selling and delivering solutions that are secure, scalable and cost efficient. As a result, VMware has built a Partner Competency program that includes robust training and customer reference requirements. VMware has developed Competency programs for the following VMware Solutions.

· Infrastructure Virtualization: The Infrastructure Virtualization Competency recognizes partners for their demonstrated ability to virtualize and consolidate server environments using a VMware virtualization solution.

· Business Continuity: The Business Continuity Competency recognizes partners’ who have the expertise in deploying VMware solutions for data protection, high availability and disaster recovery.

· Desktop Virtualization: The Desktop Virtualization Competency recognizes partners who have the expertise in deploying VMware solutions for virtualizing desktops and applications.

Why choose a Partner that has achieved a VMware Competency?

· Experts vs. Generalists: Your business needs an expert not a generalist. When it comes to design, installing, training, and/or configuring IT and other business needs you may have, you should strongly consider hiring the appropriately certified partner to help with your specific solution needs.

· Proven Results: Take comfort that the partner is capable of producing the results they claim. Partners who earn a VMware Competency in Infrastructure Virtualization, Business Continuity and Desktop Virtualization engage in rigorous solution training and must provide a validation from a customer who can vouch for their ability.

· The best IT Solutions: Partners who earn Solution Competencies are the best capable in helping your company in the journey to the cloud with VMware’s customer-proven virtualization solutions.

Over the past year, VMware has invested heavily in providing our customers with the best platform to guide them to the cloud, and recently announced our most advanced product to date, vSphere 4.1.

Our vision is for companies to leverage virtualization and the cloud to fundamentally change the role of IT – from a cost center that is in constant need of resources and maintenance — to a service center focused on evaluating, testing and deploying apps and solutions that best fit the business needs of their company.

No matter what path you plan on taking with virtualization or goals you have for your datacenter, chances are that as technology and/or customer demands evolve, so too will your virtualization journey. VMware partners have the expertise to plan, design and implement your VMware solutions every step of the way.

vSphere Essentials Plus with vMotion-Announcing New Promotion in Big Growth Market

Doug_smith_72x100 Doug Smith: Leading with Partners

While many people consider VMware to be a company that services the enterprise, the majority of our business, as much as 80 percent, comes from the SMB market and you, our partners, are the key driver into this important segment. As virtualization adoption continues to expand rapidly in the SMB space, VMware has taken steps to ensure partners servicing the SMBs have lucrative opportunities in a big growth market.

The SMB market is perhaps the most exciting and opportunistic in virtualization today, as the sector constantly looks for cost-saving solutions and VMware continues to provide virtualization packages that are affordable and robust. More and more SMBs are looking to the scalability and affordability of cloud, but may not realize that virtualization provides them with the best path to the cloud along with added benefits like consolidation, management, and automation of routine, time consuming tasks. We are also seeing that after the recession, more SMBs are considering the lifecycle savings of virtualization and see adoption and implementation of virtualization as a strategic business objective.

To build on VMware’s SMB offerings, we are excited to announce today a new promotion for SMBs looking for the most cost-effective and comprehensive virtualization solution on the market – the new vSphere Essentials Plus with vMotion.  For SMBs with less than 20 servers, vSphere Essentials Plus provides a proven, reliable, industry leading virtualization solution. With vMotion, SMBs can now migrate VMs between physical servers with no impact to end-users – ensuring that applications have higher availability and the testing and deployment of apps is safe and seamless.

VMware Essentials continues to be offered at $495 + subscription. For further information on VMware SMB solutions please visit: http://www.vmware.com/solutions/smb/scalable_solutions.html.

VMware Continues to be Choice of Customers, Analysts

Ben_matheson_74x100  Ben Matheson: The vMarketing Expert

With the recent release of vSphere 4.1, I wanted to take a look back at the past year and share a few of the many recognitions and awards VMware has received. Like in year’s past, VMware has overwhelmingly been chosen by customers and analysts as the industry-leader in virtualization, but this year is particularly special – here’s why.

In 2009 and 2010 VMware has concretely maintained its leadership position despite facing more competition in server virtualization and desktop virtualization than ever before. Additionally, we successfully educated customers, media and analysts on how vSphere is the best platform for cloud computing initiatives; providing VMware with significant recognition as a major player in the cloud. VMware’s solid position as the industry leader in all-things virtualization has led to two particular recognitions that I would like to share with you, reflecting how customers view VMware and how one of the most intensive analyst reports on virtualization to date rated VMware as the clear leader. Here is a breakdown of both.

Gartner Magic Quadrant for x86 Server Virtualization Infrastructure

The x86 virtualization infrastructure market is a foundation for two extremely important market trends: infrastructure modernization and cloud computing. Gartner rated virtualization vendors on two broad aspects for their report – completeness of vision and ability to execute. VMware, being compared along with eight other virtualization vendors (including Citrix and Microsoft), was rated highest in both categories by a significant margin. Here is a look at Gartner praises for VMware and questions for competitors:

Gartner praises VMware for:

· Far-reaching virtualization strategy that includes enabling cloud computing, new application architectures and broader management

· Technology leadership and innovation

· High customer satisfaction

· Large installed base (especially in the Global 2000), and rapid growth of service providers planning to use VMware (vCloud initiative)

While questioning competitors for:

· Offering "Limited innovation and reactive strategy in a rapidly evolving market"

· Facing an "Uphill battle breaking into a very strong VMware installed base, especially in large enterprises"

· Failing to link virtualization and Cloud, offering an "evolving strategy and road map with respect to virtualization's tie with cloud computing"

· While delivering a product with a "Single point of failure/planned downtime in parent operating system"

The next recognition VMware is particularly proud of is vSphere 4’s multiple award wins at Microsoft’s Tech•Ed 2010 conference. vSphere 4 was not only chosen for “Microsoft Best of Tech•Ed 2010 Virtualization Product” by media outlets Windows IT Pro and SQL Server Magazine, but also chosen as the Attendees’ Pick – selected by more than 10,000 customers, partners, and staff at the conference. vSphere 4 won the Attendees’ Pick out of nearly 50 exhibited products that were nominated for the award across all categories at the show.

The Tech•Ed awards signify the continued recognition of VMware as the best platform to run Microsoft apps by media, customers and partners.

VMware continues to hold its leadership position in the industry and will have significant announcements at VMworld 2010 that will further enhance our industry-best solutions for customers and boost awareness of vSphere as the go-to platform for cloud computing. Hope to see you at VMworld.
