OpenStack 2.5: Seamlessly Leverage Existing VM Templates
Customers can now seamlessly leverage their existing vSphere templates and start consuming them via standard OpenStack APIs. The ability to now directly import vSphere VM templates into OpenStack as Glance images eliminates the time required to import these often large disk images over the network into the OpenStack cloud. This enables the pre-seeding of images resulting in faster deployment times.
OpenStack 2.5: Smaller Management Footprint
Concerned with the amount of resources the management control plane of your OpenStack 2.5 Framework consumes? This release offers a simplified architecture that requires fewer hardware resources but still provides the same level of resilience, scale and performance as previous releases. This simplified architecture reduces that footprint by 30% saving you resource costs and reducing overall operational complexity.
OpenStack 2.5: Support for vSphere Standard Edition with NSX
You have asked for increased options over the VMware infrastructure software powering VMware Integrated OpenStack, and this new release delivers. VMware Integrated OpenStack 2.5 introduces support for vSphere Standard in conjunction with VMware NSX. Until now, VMware Integrated OpenStack only supported vSphere Enterprise Plus.
OpenStack 2.5: Troubleshooting & Monitoring Out of the Box
VMware Integrated OpenStack 2.5 includes built-in CLI tools for troubleshooting and monitoring your OpenStack deployment. You can easily monitor the status of various OpenStack services, trace API calls and capture usage statistics of OpenStack process out of the box without having to install any additional agents or tools.
OpenStack 2.5: Neutron Layer 2 Gateway Support
Layer 2 gateway services, now available via Neutron, allow a tenant’s virtual network to be bridged to a physical network. This integration provides users with the capability to access resources on a physical server (ex: the database tier of a multi-tier application) via a layer 2 network connection rather than via a routed layer 3 connection. This can simplify the infrastructure deployment process for the application developer by…
- Enabling programmatic connection of VLANs to logical networks
- Offering the choice of NSX L2 gateway services across access switches, core/aggregation switches and edge routers to bridge virtual and physical networks in any data center topology
- Allowing flexible workload placement and workload mobility
OpenStack 2.5: Optimized for NFV (Network Function Virtualization)
There is improved support for NFV workloads. With features such as per-tenant capacity subscription, fine-grained instance performance tuning and SR-IOV, you can pre-assign capacity subscriptions for tenants ensuring that capacity is guaranteed for consumers regardless of defined quotas.
