We hope you enjoyed the event as much as the CloudHealth and CloudHealth Secure State teams did. We met with peers, customers, and partners, enjoyed presenting sessions and hearing feedback, and attended many thought-provoking presentations.
While there were many amazing live sessions to attend, you may have missed out on a few (we had to, too!). To make up for this, we put together a list of highlights from the keynote presentations and our favorite sessions.

AWS re:Invent 2021 Keynote Presentations
Adam Selipsky, AWS CEO – Watch the session
- “Pathfinders” were the central theme of Selipsky’s address, citing examples of Hank Biasetti, Florence Nightengale, and Roscoe Brown as pathfinders who have pushed against the status quo to find a better way forward. It was through this lens that Selipsky introduced the company’s vision and the opportunity that lies ahead while we still navigate the early days of cloud.
- In addition to examples of how AWS has helped innovate in financial services, automotive, and other industries, Selipsky welcomed executives from NASDAQ, DISH, United Airlines, and 3M Company.
- Selipsky made more announcements than can be listed here, but notable highlights include: Graviton3 processors, C7g instances for EC2, AWS Mainframe Modernization, and AWS Private 5G.
Swami Sivasubramanian, VP, Amazon Machine Learning – Watch the session
- Amazon DevOps Guru for RDS – Sivasubramanian presented the general availability of Amazon DevOps Guru for RDS (built for Amazon Aurora) that automatically detects, diagnoses, and resolves database-related performance issues in minutes.
- Amazon DynamoDB Standard-Infrequent Access table class – Now with general availability, you can optimize the costs of your DynamoDB workloads based on your tables’ storage requirements and data access patterns.
- AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) Fleet Advisor – In preview today, accelerate database migration with automated inventory and recommendations.
- SageMaker Additions – Sivasubramanian announced new additions to the SageMaker portfolio including: SageMaker Ground Truth Plus, SageMaker Inference Recommender, SageMaker Serverless Interface, SageMaker Training Compiler, and SageMaker Studio Lab.
- Amazon Kendra New Features – Amazon Kendra (intelligent search service powered by machine learning) announced three new features of: Amazon Kendra Experience Builder, Amazon Kendra Search Analytics Dashboard, and Amazon Kendra Custom Document Enrichment.
Peter DeSantis, Senior VP, Utility Computing and Apps – Watch the session

Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval – DeSantis reinstated the capacities of this new advancement and noted the S3 team has been utilizing ‘Lightweight Formal Methods’ to complete projects with provable systems with formal tools and fast-moving agile teams.

AWS Nitro SSD – The second generation of AWS Nitro SSDs have continued to improve performance on workloads and avoid delay spikes.

AWS Graviton 3 – The latest AWS Graviton3 processors are available in preview and provide a 25% improved performance for most workloads.

Machine Learning – AWS is investing in Machine Learning with AWS Trainium and AWS Neuron SDK– to help customers with Training infrastructure (building models with data) and Inference infrastructure (using models to make predictions).
Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO, Amazon.com – Watch the session
- 30 new local zones – Starting in 2022, AWS will be expanding predominantly in Europe, Africa, Australia, and Asia to continue removing network constraints and lowering latency. Looking into the future, AWS announced AWS Space Accelerator, looking toward “the next frontier for cloud” and innovation in Space.
- AWS Amplify Studio – Developers will be offered a low code, visual environment to build complete and feature rich apps. This new service will help accelerate UI development and move the timeframe for development into hours instead of weeks.
- Sustainability Pillar within the AWS Well-Architected Framework – Looking toward a more sustainable future, AWS intends to help customers incorporate sustainability into their operational planning.
- Additional announcements – Amazon EC2 M1 Mac Instance, AWS Cloud WAN, new SDKs (Swift, Kotlin, and Rust), Cloud Development Kit Version 2, AWS Construct Hub, and community driven Q&A with AWS Re:Post.
