One of the challenges associated with running a containerized environment is maintaining visibility and governance around its business impact and costs. To help solve this challenge, CloudHealth offers the Container Governance Module, which gives customers visibility into their Kubernetes and container environments, and helps identify areas for optimization.
Adoption of containers and Kubernetes isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, with research predicting that “by 2022, more than 75% of global organizations will be running containerized applications in production.” Businesses are embracing new methods of building and delivering applications, leveraging containers, Kubernetes, and microservice architectures to move faster and drive digital transformation.
However, one of the challenges associated with running a containerized environment, whether it’s in the data center or in the public cloud, is maintaining visibility and governance around its business impact and costs. Allocating the costs of these dynamic environments is critical for making informed strategic decisions and driving accountability.
To help solve this challenge, CloudHealth offers the Container Governance Module, which gives customers visibility into their container environments and helps identify areas for optimization. Since we first launched the Container Governance Module several years ago, we’ve seen container adoption grow at a massive scale, and we’ve learned a lot about the evolving challenges in the space. To continue to support our customers, we’ve been investing in our Container Governance Module technology, with some recent improvements we’d like to share!
Kubernetes reporting enhancements
We’re pleased to announce significant improvements to the underlying technology of our containers reporting, which will build a foundation for future enhancements.
- Faster load times for Kubernetes Resources and Allocation Reports
- Extended data timeline (13 months) for Kubernetes Resources and Allocation Reports, and Containers Cost Distribution in the Containers Cost History Report for Kubernetes environments
- Improved configuration and terminology of usage reports
Flexible and customizable cost allocation reporting
For years, CloudHealth customers have been able to distribute the costs of shared cloud resources used by their containerized applications, based on how many resources various components have requested to be provisioned.
Now customers can configure multiple concurrent distributions of those costs used by containerized applications and measure the costs of a cluster, for example, split by namespace, or by product line, or by team. This new capability allows users to select their preferred cost distribution rule in the Containers Cost History Report from a dropdown selector.
For existing CloudHealth customers, you can reference our container governance documentation for more information and best practices. If you’re not a CloudHealth customer yet, but you’re interested in learning more, feel free to set up a time to connect with us and we’d be happy to provide a free demo of the platform and answer any questions you may have.
We also have several resources on the CloudHealth website to help support your cloud container journey—whether you’re just thinking about getting started with containers, or you already have thousands of clusters in place.
