VMworld 2012 – Day One

Just finished up my shift on The Expert Bar here at VMworld 2012, so a chance to tap out some observations.

The day started off with the always splashy opening keynote where Paul Maritz introduced Pat Gelsinger, our new CEO. This was the view from the Hangspace, a casual lounge area with a huge 360 degree monitor.
Once the keynote wrapped up the throngs of attendees headed over to the Solutions Exchange. VMware got the extra nice padded carpeting under our many booths and pods. The Expert Bar is shown here right before it got crowded with all sorts of attendees, from partners, vendors, and IT guys.
Here’s a customer hammering out a tricky networking scenario.

Come back for more news tomorrow. We’ll try and catch some video of what sort of questions we’re getting from attendees. It appears right now that the bulk of the questions are about VMware View. Implementation questions. Of course our Licensing guys are getting a lot of high-fives over VMware’s decision to drop vRAM from it’s licensing scheme.
