Immediately on the heels of the Annual EDUCAUSE 2018 Conference in Denver, Colorado, the VMware global education team headed to Barcelona for 2018’s VMworld EMEA event, changing the venue but not the topics of conversation. To bring everyone together, we hosted a higher education workshop and saw the room filled with some of the top universities in the world discussing how they are tackling higher education’s most exciting topics.
Top of mind was operational excellence and public cloud strategy. The discussion spanned half the globe from Boston to France to Italy and the Netherlands. Two presenters from MIT explained both their private and public cloud strategies, including how they work together in a hybrid data center and their experience using VMware Cloud on AWS.
We also heard from University of Lancaster, University of Florence, and French partner, Renater, who is providing infrastructure as a service to every university in France – all built on a VMware foundation. We talked scale, we talked resources needed to accomplish goals, the impact technology is having on students and faculty, and most importantly, we connected great minds that will share their experiences long after the event has ended. Together, they will undoubtedly find new ways to use technology to improve student outcomes, better support faculty in both teaching and research, and evolve IT practices to improve operational excellence in both IT and their institutions at large.
