Throughout history, changes have resulted from disturbances. If we look at how the Corona epidemic affected those of us who could work remotely, we would find that organizations that were tense about their workforce’s remote work had to move their employees to a different way of working

It was a dramatic change – if only two years ago, fifteen percent of employees worked from home regularly or rarely, today the numbers have reversed. This is one of the fastest changes in history. But organizations are starting to look further ahead and what is expected of them in the future

After the closure, getting back to normal is not exactly a reboot. Second, employees still want to stay remote or stay in the form of work that involves home and office, but changes need to be more standardized to help a changing world. What is certain is that the equation will not return to its predecessor – employees have found benefits in remote work, although some still miss office work

Movement in the work culture

In many ways, the Corona has forced many organizations to make digital change decisions. From online payments to remote work, the rapid development of applications and collaborative tools following the epidemic of organizations of all kinds drives the digital transformation that the world is undergoing today

This is one of the reasons for the “new normal”. In a climate of restrictions, why would buyers continue to pay cash? Why do employees stop working from home? Not all sectors can hire employees remotely, but those that do continue to operate in much the same way, which means that the old reasons for working from home have also changed

However, early preparation does not indicate correct execution. In the early weeks of the epidemic the mantra was: It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to work. Now that you are entering the post-closure period, organizations have the opportunity to think more strategically about their transition

This is an opportunity to rethink how the organization works, and examine the organization’s decision making. For example, decisions that were previously made within months should now be made within days or weeks

Accelerating digital transformation

The response to the crisis may also indicate something about the tools and applications used by organizations to an extent that did not look the same. Many of the pragmatic decisions made in the first period are unsuitable for a longer period. More emphasis should now be placed on securing communication channels, for example, to increase security in the channels used by employees. Switching to software-defined networks will also improve security and flexibility

Many organizations that initially feared the public cloud are increasingly working with it. The cloud offers organizations a considerable opportunity, a variety of services offered to them with the security they are looking for. On the other hand, organizations need to understand that if they are looking at longer usage, they should choose a hybrid cloud that offers greater ability to drive workloads between the public and private cloud and the organization’s location with built-in security

Malicious factors can thrive at such times and business resilience is more important than ever. This is an opportunity to continue to create agility that supports productive work and also ensures security in chaotic times.

No one can predict the future. There is a likelihood that we will return to another closure situation in the future. That is why organizations need to build their resilience for the near and long term. For many organizations this period can also be a kind of competitive opportunity. More than ever, organizations of all sizes need to learn from the actions they have taken in the current era and see what has worked for them and what has not. Reassessment is always important in building organizational digital change and especially during this time
