How we help you modernize your apps and infrastructure

Posted on 13/03/2020 by vmwarebelgium

New infrastructure, new products, a new chapter. This week during our App Modernization Online Event, we launched an array of brand-new products and services. All custom designed to help you  modernize applications and rebuild a more secure, more efficient infrastructure. So, this is a whole new chapter for modern apps, for VMware and for our customers.

The additions include VMware Tanzu Portfolio, VMware Cloud Foundation 4 and new VMware vSphere 7. Together, these products contribute to the most comprehensive software stack for building and running programmes – spanning application to infrastructure. We’re excited to share this portfolio and enable you to drive instant business outcomes, whether it’s building apps, adopting cloud native principles or modernizing existing apps. As of right now, VMware is uniquely positioned to enable and guide customers to develop new modern applications, as well as modernize existing applications and infrastructure.  So, here are the main announcements:

VMware Tanzu: App Modernization Portfolio

Simply put, VMware Tanzu is a portfolio of products and services that enable enterprises to deliver better software faster. You can use the suite to automate the modern app lifecycle, run Kubernetes across clouds, and unify and optimize multi-cloud operations.

VMware Cloud Foundation 4: Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure for App Modernization

Secondly, VMware Cloud Foundation 4 with Tanzu will provide hybrid cloud infrastructure with consistent management for both VM-based and container-based applications while delivering intrinsic security and lifecycle management across software-defined compute, storage and network resources. So, this new release will introduce VMware Cloud Foundation Services, an integrated Kubernetes and RESTful API surface to enable organizations to drive API access to all core services.

VMware vSphere 7: Essential Services for Modern Hybrid Cloud

Next to that, we also introduced VMware vSphere 7—the biggest evolution of vSphere in over a decade. VMware vSphere 7 was previewed in August 2019 as Project Pacific. Above all Project Pacific focused on rearchitecting vSphere into an open platform using Kubernetes APIs to provide a cloud-like experience for developers and operators.

A foundational component of the VMware Tanzu portfolio, the new release will support both modern and traditional applications using any combination of virtual machines, containers and Kubernetes.

VMware vSphere 7 will help increase developer and operator productivity, enabling faster-time-to-innovation combined with the security, stability, governance of traditional enterprise infrastructure at a lower overall cost.

Availability

So, VMware Tanzu Application Catalog, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid and VMware Tanzu Mission Control are all available from now.

Furthermore VMware Cloud Foundation 4, VMware vSphere 7, VMware vSAN 7, VMware vRealize Automation 8.1 and VMware vRealize Operations 8.1 :

=> all are all expected to become available by May 1, 2020.
