Free Book Excerpt: VMware vSphere 5 Building a Virtual Datacenter

Our friends at VMware Press have provided another free chapter excerpt from their new book, VMware vSphere 5 Building a Virtual Datacenter by Eric Maille and René-Francois Mennecier.

IT managers face strong pressure to transform and modernize their information system. To meet these growing needs while controlling costs, server virtualization is a must. It has become the cornerstone of modern computing, paving the way to cloud computing. We have entered a new computing era where the technology once used for testing and development is now being deployed for critical applications.

In 2012, VMware vSphere 5 is the server-virtualization solution most often deployed in corporate environments. It has become the standard in production environments. Alternative solutions do exist, such as those offered by Microsoft, Citrix, and Oracle, but none to date offers as much integration and compatibility with the various datacenter components as VMware vSphere 5 when it comes to both hardware and software.
