Instructure Saves Tens Of Thousands With CloudHealth On Convertible Reserved Instances

Last month, CloudHealth announced several new cost optimization features, one of which was automation for the CloudHealth EC2 Convertible Reserved Instance (RI) Exchanger—providing the highest savings while limiting additional investment. With the Convertible RI Exchanger, companies are able to save tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of minutes, by automating the entire RI exchange process. And one of those companies is Instructure—a CloudHealth customer since 2012.

Driven by a passion for continuous learning, Instructure offers a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform that helps users improve education and development. To date, Instructure has connected millions of instructors and learners at more than 4,000 educational institutions and corporations throughout the world.

While Instructure has been taking advantage of several of CloudHealth’s features over the years, most recently, Systems Architect Jeff Julander has been particularly excited about the Convertible RI Exchanger. Prior to CloudHealth’s introduction of the feature, Jeff had not done much with convertibles, based on concerns about time and resources potentially involved. However, now that he has experienced all of the benefits, such as saving time through the new automation capability, Instructure uses the Convertible RI Exchanger nearly every week.

“Based on the flexibility CloudHealth grants us, we have switched over to using all convertibles now at this point. In fact, we have already made several exchanges that have saved us tens of thousands of dollars per month,” said Jeff.

Further, with the Convertible RI Exchanger, the company plans to move from an environment with 70-80 percent reservation coverage to one that has over 90-95 percent reserved. Instructure no longer has to be concerned about buying a RI that they will have to sell in the market later.

“We feel everything CloudHealth provides in the tool is intuitive. It offers all the features we could want, and makes it so easy to make these exchanges,” added Jeff.

Ultimately, with CloudHealth, Instructure is benefitting from:

  • A flexible platform that gives them visibility into their cloud spend
  • Optimization features that provide a more strategic approach to RI management
  • Governance and automation capabilities that have saved not just money, but also significant time and effort

“CloudHealth has been an invaluable platform that has enabled us to save a lot of money. We have saved millions of dollars as a result of using CloudHealth,” stated Jeff.

Through features like the Convertible RI Exchanger, CloudHealth has helped multicloud customers gain agility at scale, without sacrificing visibility and governance. Schedule a demo of this feature to learn how you can help your organization reduce their monthly spend!
