Cloud Updates Optimization Tips

Access Any Cloud Without Complexity Or Risk

In today’s innovative landscape, organizations are leveraging multiple clouds providers simultaneously. Self-service, on-demand access to the cloud means IT, developers, and Lines of Business (LOB) can rapidly adopt cloud services from any cloud provider. But this flexibility brings unexpected complexity, and with it lost efficiency, rising cost, and security risk.

For many organizations adopting a multicloud strategy, there’s a growing challenge around how ones finds success in their cloud journey. How do you access the innovation available from cloud providers without adding so much complexity and risk to your organization’s operations you aren’t able to grow and be strategic?

Joe Kinsella, CTO of CloudHealth by VMware, explores how to better manage the complexities of the multicloud world while driving smarter business decisions.

A few years ago, it was uncommon to find customers who were using multiple clouds—today, it’s imperative for any successful cloud strategy. But this change in strategy comes with its fair share of challenges.

Below are Kinsella’s top three hurdles to managing a multicloud environment:

  1. Decentralized management: The cloud was adopted ‘inside-out’, meaning organizations today are managing the cloud in dozens or hundreds of different places.
  2. Pace of change: The cloud moves 4-5 orders of magnitude faster than equivalent business services running inside a data center. It’s common for this existing IT methodologies to be unable to support such speed having been built to support vastly different processes.
  3. Moving from single cloud to multicloud: Organizations looking to find success in their multicloud journey need to design and implement a new approach to management, and that change starts all the way at the top with redefining business intent.
