Meet the Hiring Manager: Ashish Sharma — Manager, Engineering 

Our Meet the Hiring Manager  series allows you to get to know the people who grow teams at VMware. You’ll learn about our hiring managers’ career paths and what they look for in candidates during the interview process. This week we’d like you to meet Ashish Sharma. 


  • Job title: Manager, Engineering 
  • Years at VMware: Joined November 2018 
  • First job: I started my journey with a Bengaluru-based start-up company and had an opportunity to work on transportation & logistics-based desktop/Web apps.  
  • Fun fact: I am interested in adventure activities, travelling to new places, and playing Cricket. 


VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date. 
Ashish: I started my career journey with a Bengaluru-based startup company and, in the initial 1.5 years, got the opportunity to work on desktop and web apps. Then I joined the shop floor apps team at Dassault Systems. This is where I learnt a lot and built the next-generation manufacturing execution systems. Then I joined the VMware Tunnel team. I’ve had a great experience so far; the team is motivated and energetic to take on complex development challenges. 

VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have previously worked for? 

Ashish: VMware has always been an organization that focused on the product, code quality, and culture with EPIC2 values. This is one of the best places I have ever seen where people work together to improve the product, and customer experience, drive multiple new initiatives and work on continuous innovation. Here you will always find the support and encouragement to do new things. This makes me proud that I am part of this organization that lives with the EPIC2 values. 

VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you advance in your career? 

Ashish: Always be a team player and a multi-tasker and believe in the power of failure. It’s the best way to learn. Keep learning from your mistakes and make a habit of not repeating them.  

VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter? 

Ashish: Our team is building a solution that provides secure access to corporate resources. We aim to develop highly scalable services to handle billions of devices across various device platforms. As part of our team, you will provide technical leadership by driving the design and development of major components. It’s an excellent opportunity to own current/future development initiatives and join us in building highly scalable solutions.

VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow for a role in your org, what interview tips would you give them? 

Ashish: We are looking for individuals passionate about building scalable solutions. Their experience building different tech stack services would be appreciated. 

 My advice would be: 

  1. We expect every individual to have a depth understanding of the concepts/ they work on daily. 
  1. Ask all required questions you feel are necessary to understand your job description. 
  1. Give real-life examples of how you solved customer problems. 
  1. Please tell us how you will make a difference to this team.
