After about four years of experience as an Engineer, I wanted to work closely with the customer, so I changed roles to my current position as a Support Service Manager.

VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for in the past?

Masaharu Kamoshita: There are many very talented and open people at VMware. In addition, there are no barriers between departments and within the organization. VMware has a very supportive culture, so when I have a problem, I can easily ask for help, regardless of my tenure or position.

VMware Careers: What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Masaharu Kamoshita: I feel motivated when we are able to solve customer issues one by one and receive words of appreciation from them for our great service. When we are able to accomplish this as a team, it gives us an even greater sense of accomplishment and motivation.

Masaharu Kamoshita: I’ve learned that positive results can be achieved if we take our customers’ opinions seriously and respond to them as a team. My ability might be limited but by thinking positively in such situations, and getting help from the people around me, we can come up with a variety of ideas that are even better. This has sometimes resulted in better customer satisfaction.

VMware Careers: What makes the team you lead so effective?

Masaharu Kamoshita: We enhance productivity by creating an atmosphere where team members can openly consult with each other and share knowledge and information. In addition, I feel that we are contributing to customer satisfaction by providing prompt solutions to highly important problems in cooperation with other teams.

VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow, what interview tips would you give them?

Masaharu Kamoshita: Learning the technical specifications about our products can come after you join us. It won’t matter if you don’t have vast knowledge and experience with our products before as long as you have general knowledge about software, tech, and the IT industry. What’s important is showing your personality and your desire to learn and build a career with VMware. Our team members come from a variety of backgrounds, and the atmosphere is very open. Therefore, we would like you to make the most of your experience in customer service and problem solving while cooperating with team members and learning from your every experience.
