Our Meet the Hiring Manager series allows you to get to know the people who grow teams at VMware. You’ll learn about our hiring managers’ career paths and what they look for in candidates during the interview process. This week we’d like you to meet Sujay Nair.
- VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?
Sujay: I started my carrier as an Oracle Developer and got caught up with the power that relational databases can bring into the world of applications development. It soon turned into my passion for designing and developing effective and efficient applications with a critical eye on performance. I still remember spending my initial learning days writing complex database queries, looking at their execution plans, and optimizing the flow for best results. From there on, I got introduced to the Enterprise Application space with Oracle E-business suites and middleware technology which includes the likes of TIBCO.
I started managing a team in 2010 and since then have ventured into multiple technology spaces, including Salesforce CRM. I became keenly interested in enterprise architecture throughout managing and designing applications across various platforms and got TOGAF certified. I joined VMware in Aug’2020 as a Senior Manager responsible for the Deal Management and CPQ track. I work with a Global team of highly motivated individuals, both Product Owners, and Engineers, and I love every interaction with them.
- VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?
Sujay: Before joining VMware, I was a consumer of VMware products in my prior organization. I was amazed by the power of the product features offering and technology advancement VMware brought into Virtualization the Server stacks. That made my decision to join VMware that much easier, as I was in love with the products and could see myself contributing to a more significant cause. VMware, unlike other organizations, is a fast-paced organization with a high appetite to grow and it presents ample opportunity to learn and grow to all who are keen.
- VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?
Sujay: As I have grown in my career, I have started appreciating that attitude plays a crucial role in shaping who we are and where we would be. Every day I try to bring the best perspective to work and keep my working eco-system charged up to reflect the best vibe in others. As it’s said, laughter is contagious so is a good attitude.
- VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?
Sujay: VMware is going through a business and systems transformation as we pivot our Go-To-Market strategy from perpetual product offering to SaaS and subscription model. This role we are hiring will play a vital role in this transformation, influencing the systems architecture in the right direction with ample opportunity to learn and grow.
From a technology stack, VMware CPQ is a Custom-developed Application that is hosted on the force.com platform. The primary development happens on APEX classes, Lightning web components, SOQL, and Integrations front.
- VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow for a role in your org, what interview tips would you give them?
Sujay: We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated and with a passion for bringing change to the organization.
When you come for the interview, My advice would be:
- Know what you are passionate about and how it connects to the work.
- Come prepared and be yourself – We would love to see your original self in action.
- Ask good questions, and you are interviewing us as much as we are interviewing you.
