We are thrilled that VMware has achieved 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and named one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” for the fourth consecutive year.
The CEI is a leading benchmarking survey and annual assessment of corporate policies, benefits, and work practices relating to LGBTQ workplace equality. Each year, the CEI sets the bar higher for participants to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace in real, tangible ways, and VMware is no exception.
This year, VMware achieved an important milestone by expanding Self-ID* to include gender identity, pronouns, and LGBTQ+ data fields. As a result, nonbinary and LGBTQ+ is now included in our HRIS (Human Resource Information System) underscoring our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace.
Our LGBTQ+ members and their families are offered a comprehensive program of benefits that are among the best in the industry. This includes full benefits parity between same-sex and different-sex spouses, including domestic partners. And we make no transgender exclusions on any of our plans.
“This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and inclusive workplace that ensures our LGBTQ+ colleagues feel seen, included, and valued as part of the VMware community,” said Jason Conyard, VMware’s CIO and Executive Sponsor for the PRIDE@VMware POD. “I’m immensely grateful to the meaningful contributions of our teams, including members of the PRIDE POD, towards creating the most diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce.”
As Co-Leads of the PRIDE POD, we are continually humbled by the passion and energy of our core team, and the amazing work that they do on behalf of our LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in 2021 and beyond!
Our 2030 Agenda
Building a future that is accessible, equitable, and inclusive for all is outlined as part of VMware’s 2030 Agenda — our decade-long commitment to addressing some of the most complex challenges facing the global community.

*Self-identification (Self-ID) is an important tool that allows VMware employees to share their diversity data voluntarily and confidentially. This feature has currently been implemented in the U.S. only. Additionally, for the LGBTQ+ data fields, a special security group has been established, and access is restricted to a few individually identified members of the HR team. Nonbinary and LGBTQ+ are now included in our Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
