Our Meet the Hiring Manager series allows you to get to know the people who grow teams at VMware. You will learn about our hiring managers’ career paths and what they look for in candidates during the interview process. This week we’d like you to meet Leanne Francis.
VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?
Leanne Francis: I recently joined VMware as Director of the Cloud Provider Business for ANZ (Australia and New Zealand). Before my time at VMware, I worked in many leadership roles within large technology companies. My passion is people, and I thrive in customer and sales environments. When the opportunity arose for me to join VMware’s Cloud Business in ANZ, I jumped at it. For me, it was the right company, with the right technology, at the right time in the market.
VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?
Leanne Francis: It is a fascinating time to be at VMware. The constant focus on innovation, the culture, diversity, and social responsibility we demonstrate and promote are the best I have ever experienced in my career. Our company values – EPIC2 (Execution, Passion, Integrity, Customers, Community) are key differentiators.
A few examples of our values in action can be seen in VMware’s sustainability efforts, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, and Citizen Philanthropy efforts through the VMware Foundation. Recent events have accelerated the company’s desire to move to the cloud. It is a great time to be involved in technology.
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?
Leanne Francis: Be true to your talent and skillset; don’t try to be someone you are not. I ensure that the people I have around me compliment my skillset. I try to listen more, learn something new each day, and look ahead.
VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?
Leanne Francis: The ANZ Cloud team that I lead is tasked with working with our customers to accelerate their cloud adoption journey. We do this through our VMware business partners enrolled in our VCPP program (VMware Cloud Provider Program). This program enables partners to consume VMware software on a pay-as-you-go, pay-as-you-grow, monthly subscription model. VMware Service Provider Partners offers hybrid cloud services that quickly and seamlessly extend their customers’ data centers into the cloud using the same VMware products and tools they already use on-premise. All of our clients have started consuming cloud services in one form or another. Although their reasons for this are varied, they are all looking to take advantage of cloud computing characteristics that enable their organizations to become more agile, innovate at speed, and reduce the time to market new product and service offerings for their customers.
VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview for a role in your org, what advice would you share with them?
Leanne Francis: The qualities that I look for are attitude, energy, resilience with a desire to succeed. The interview process is a two-way street. As much as you are being interviewed for team fit and suitability for the role, you are also vetting the company and the team you would potentially work with. You will do your best work and have the most fun in a team where you feel that you belong and invested in the company’s success.
