Our Meet the Hiring Manager series allows you to get to know the people who grow teams at VMware. You will learn about our hiring managers’ career paths and what they look for in candidates during the interview. This week we’d like you to meet Ganesh Hiregoudar.
VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?
Ganesh Hiregoudar: My career journey includes twenty-plus years of experience in consulting and engineering in different leadership roles. I joined VMware through the re-organization within the Dell Technologies family in 2019. In total, I’ve been working at EMC/Dell and now VMware in various leadership roles for eight and a half years. I played a pivotal role in setting up a Telco incubation center within Dell/EMC and now, because of that experience I’ve been asked to set up the Success360 accelerator services unit within VMware’s Worldwide Consulting Center (WWCC).
Earlier in my career, I worked at Sun Microsystems and Cognizant. A decade of working at Sun Microsystems gave me in-depth experience in the open-source community. I worked on bringing innovation from the community to the business helping it to transform and grow. In Cognizant, I led the teams that set up an offshore delivery center and designed a blended delivery model.
VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?
Ganesh Hiregoudar: It’s been a journey for me here at VMware. One thing I like very much here is the openness and communication from the leadership team who embody our EPIC2 values. Recently, I appreciated the empathy and regular communication by executive management during COVID-19 as employees were adapting to change due to remote working.
It’s been an exciting time for me to be at VMware, the constant innovation in whatever we do is inspiring and being part of that innovation journey is a privilege. I also appreciate VMware’s dedication to diversity. Even the interview panelists are chosen to keep diversity in mind. Personally, this high level of commitment is unique to what I’ve seen before.
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson that you have learned as you have moved upwards in your career?
Ganesh Hiregoudar: To me, the career-shaping lessons that I have learned along the way is to be a lifelong student. I truly believe in continually refreshing and updating my knowledge. The key to building high-performance teams is to empower team members to make critical decisions. This enables global organizations to function with autonomy, builds confidence, and motivates teams to go above and beyond to achieve organizational goals. Collaboration is the most important attribute of successful organizations, especially at scale.
VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?
Ganesh Hiregoudar: The Worldwide Consulting Centers (WWCC), which are part of the global VMware Professional Services Organization, are committed to the success of the customer and their digital strategy. The WWCC streamlines the journey for customers to become digital businesses that deliver better experiences to their customers and employees. Under the new VMware Success360 offering, the WWCC delivers high volume, short duration accelerator engagements, which include the onboarding, adoption, consumption, and optimization of the VMware product franchises (multi-cloud, virtual cloud networking, digital workspace). These accelerator engagements ensure customers rapidly reach their goals by providing expert help every step of the way.
VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview for a role on your team tomorrow, what advice would you share with them?
Ganesh Hiregoudar: We are looking for individuals who are excited to learn and explore VMware technologies and to solve business problems. Come to the interview with a passion to do more and with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, a positive attitude goes a long way with me!
