VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?

Anita Jindal: My career journey started as an engineer at IBM and Sun Microsystems. While working as a Senior Engineer at Sun Microsystems, I had an opportunity to move into a management role. This enabled me to hone my soft skills, including strategic thinking, interpersonal skills, building, and leading global teams to deliver innovative products. As I progressed through my leadership journey at Sun, Oracle, and NetApp, I continuously learned from my experiences and grew my skill set. I always encourage my organization to learn new technologies and acquire skills to deliver innovative customer products.

VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?

Anita Jindal: I joined VMware a few months ago from NetApp. I appreciate VMware’s EPIC2 values, the culture of teamwork, and passion for innovation in delivering customer products. The VMware executive team has regular employee town halls to share company goals and progress. I appreciated the compassion and regular communication by executive management during COVID-19 as employees were adapting to change due to remote working.

VMware leadership has a specific focus on diversity and inclusion, and this is reflected at every level of the organization. Every year, VMware partners with several other companies to host the “Women Transforming Technology” conference, which provides everyone to learn from industry coaches and leaders.

VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?

Anita Jindal: The key to building high-performance teams is to empower team members to make critical decisions. This enables global organizations to function with autonomy, builds confidence, and motivates teams to go above and beyond to achieve organizational goals.

VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?

Anita Jindal: Skyline Engineering is a fast-growing organization in the Cloud Management Business Unit (CMBU) that builds platform and product for providing proactive insights to keep customers out of harm’s way. Skyline team uses telemetry data to innovate and deliver capabilities to VMware customers. This is a fast-paced environment where you will use technologies to solve complex problems, derive insights from big data, and learn and innovate using VMware research and cloud technologies.

VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow for a role in your org, what advice would you share with them?

Anita Jindal: It would help if you had tenacity and passion for solving complex problems, learning new technologies, and taking pride in developing high-quality code. If you are looking to innovate and work with smart engineers in a high-paced collaborative environment, Skyline engineering is the right place for you!
