This week we want you to meet Silvia Rosino who is based in Barcelona, Spain. Silvia has just recently joined VMware, after leaving Apple. She joins as a Digital Sales Business Development Manager managing Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions. One of her first duties as a recently hired Business Development Manager is to build out her sales teams with new talent. Read on and get to know Silvia.

VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date. 

Silvia Rosino: I started my career in Information and Technology about twenty years ago. Initially I worked in marketing roles and then moved into sales when I was with Microsoft, first in Inside Sales and then as a Partner Account Manager. I covered field roles too, and five years ago Apple decided to invest in my potential as a Sales Manager. I’ve (almost) always worked in software companies in the Italian market before I moved to Spain to work for VMware. I love a challenge, and the two challenges I’ve faced have been moving into a sales role and starting my management career. I’ve over-come but challenges and now have a passion for developing the teams I manage.

 

VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?

Silvia Rosino: I have always worked in leading companies, but it is very difficult to find a company that has a strong investment in people and their development. But I have to say that this is the reason I have fallen in love with VMware and the Digital Sales Center project. I get to work with my team on both business and professional growth at the same time. Here, business results are not  only goals, but they are also the thermometer to measure how we are developing our skills.

 

VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?

Silvia Rosino: “A goal without a plan is just a wish” (A. de Saint-Exupéry) The importance is to build our success, it doesn’t matter if we are speaking about a business opportunity with a customer or a dinner with friends. A good plan maximizes the chance to achieve success.

 

VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?

Silvia Rosino: I’m responsible for the Sales Development Representatives for Central and Southern Europe. In terms of business, we are focused on the generation of demand. In terms of development, this role represents the kick-off of a sales career. In order to build the house, we have to start with the foundation!

 

VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to interview with you tomorrow for a role in your org, what advice would you share with them?

Silvia Rosino: Be yourself and don’t try to sell yourself as someone you’re not. When you try to sell something you aren’t, your taking a risk to be potentially unsatisfied with the job. Be smart! I’m looking for hungry people: hungry for results and development. I’m looking for people with a strong team player approach. Only you can do it, but with the help of the team!
