This week we want you to meet Nicole Cadet who is based in Sydney, Australia. Nicole has been with VMware since 2016. Since joining as an Inside Sales Manager, Nicole has progresses to the role of Director, Inside Sales Asia Pacific Japan (APJ). Read on to learn more about Nicole’s career path and where her passion for leading Inside Sales teams comes from.
VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?
Nicole Cadet: I began my career at Lotus (which was later acquired by IBM) as an Inside Sales Representative (ISR). I really loved the energy and passion of the ISR team, and it was a fun learning environment. It was a great place to start building my sales and marketing knowledge in the IT space. I loved the camaraderie of the inside sales culture, it gave me lots of opportunities to grow and develop. My work in ISR eventually led to my next role as a Product Marketing Manager, where I got the opportunity to travel and present to customers and partners. I’ve been at VMware for just over three years now. I joined as the Lead for Australia/New Zealand (ANZ) and was later promoted to run the Asia Pacific, Japan (APJ) region in order to introduce an inside sales framework and a structure for this region.
VMware Careers: How is VMware different than any other tech company you have worked for?
Nicole Cadet: VMware has one of the most passionate team cultures that I have ever worked for – everyone enjoys what they do and the team all get along and help each other out. Everyone happily goes above and beyond in order to succeed in their job. Not only that but VMware is a really fair and diverse workplace with the ability to work remotely. By being able to work from any office in the region, it not only allows me but any employee to ensure they have a healthy work/life balance. I feel empowered by knowing that this is the culture and I know our ISR team do as well.
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you have moved upwards in your career?
Nicole Cadet: I think success breeds success. The more positive you are the more it impacts the team. I really like to keep the team motivated and acknowledge the great work they are doing. Our ISR’s are typically at an early stage of their career and I think it is really important to encourage them by rewarding or recognizing their efforts.
VMware Careers: Your team is hiring. Can you tell us more about your organization’s charter?
Nicole Cadet: There are 3 pillars of focus within the Inside Sales team.
- People: For this, I look at how I can foster and scale talent, as well as how I can assist them in growing within the VMware business.
- Customers: I want everyone to have a strong customer focus, asking the right questions, listening and becoming their trusted advisor
- Results: We are results orientated in ISR. This means working towards achieving results, and rewarding team performance when said results are achieved. This is done by providing clarity on people’s roles, cadence around what we need to run the business, and being consistent with our results tracking. Overall, we know we need to keep the fun element as well so the team have lots of celebrations, group activities and incentives to look forward to.
VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to an interview with you tomorrow what advice would you share with them?
Being yourself if a big thing I would recommend. By being yourself, not only are we able to see if you will be the right fit for our team but you will also be able to discern if this is a team that you can envision yourself working with. Not to mention that being yourself also keeps things less stressful and natural for you! I would also advise that you try and have fun and enjoy the interview.
