This week we want you to meet Sasha Emmerling who is based in Palo Alto, California. Sasha serves as the Senior Director of Marketing for the VeloCloud team, which became part of VMware’s Networking & Security Business Unit in a December 2017 acquisition. Bringing over fifteen years of experience in the software-as-a-service and cloud sectors, Sasha is responsible for all go-to-market activities, including direct marketing, service provider relationships, and the partner program for the VMware SD-WAN by VeloCloud business unit. Before joining VMware, Emmerling ran go-to-market, demand generation, and partner marketing efforts at VeloCloud, helping to establish the company as the leader in the SD-WAN market space.

VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date.
Sasha Emmerling: I’ve been working in the tech marketing industry in Silicon Valley for seventeen years. I have been privileged to work with highly innovative software-as-a-service solutions, each disrupting its respective space. From on-demand contact center technology to the first cloud vulnerability management and security solutions to the ground-breaking SD-WAN tech – what a journey! A couple of successful acquisitions and an Initial public offering later, I am honored to be running marketing for VMware’s SD-WAN by VeloCloud group.
VMware Careers: How is the VeloCloud, now part of VMware, different from any other tech company you have worked for?
Sasha Emmerling: The technology is superb and solves critical problems for the customer – this isn’t so much different from the other companies I worked at, but until VeloCloud, I had never seen customers’ eyes light up when they saw the demo of the solution. My teammates and I believe in the technology and its benefits: we’ve all seen what it can do for customers. That’s why at VMware, innovation doesn’t stop: we learn fast and continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible to support the evolving needs of our customers. From day one our founders have built a culture of learning fast, working hard, and having fun. Every single Wednesday since we were a tiny office, we have been running an All-Hands meeting in which we recognize anniversaries, welcome new hires, and share business milestones. I have never experienced such a fast-paced, open culture, one where everyone learns from each other daily.
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you have moved upwards in your career?
Sasha Emmerling: Drive, passion, and integrity. Drive results in your everyday interactions and duties. Be passionate about every single thing you touch, even if you have – like I often do – little interest in it. This passion, combined with hard work, will drive career advancement. Actively seek mentorship from the people who inspire you. And never, ever, compromise your integrity!
VMware Careers: Your team is hiring: Can you tell us more about the open job opportunities?
Sasha Emmerling: We are hiring across the board, in Route-to-Market Success, Business Development, Content Marketing, and Demand Generation. Route-to-Market Success Managers support the onboarding of partners to help them become successful. Business Development Representatives tackle new leads and are responsible for building relationships with prospects while filling the pipeline for the sales teams. The Content Marketing Manager will work with our internal and external influencers to accelerate our thought leadership recognition in the market. Finally, Demand Generation Managers focus on “feeding” the Business Development and Sales team with qualified leads through a diverse marketing campaign mix.
VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to an interview with you tomorrow for one of these positions in your group, what advice would you share with them?
Sasha Emmerling: Be authentic and interview us as much as we interview you!
