She has made a huge impact in her short tenure here at VMware; many of her accomplishments are highlighted in this week’s Meet the Hiring Manager blogpost. If you’re interested, we invite you to take a moment to get to know Misha, the leader behind the Professional Services team in India, before applying to one of our open roles.
VMware Careers: Tell us about your career journey to date?
Misha Joshi: I joined VMware about sixteen months ago as Senior Director of Professional Services. TheProfessional Services team enables VMware customers to gain a lasting edge in their journey to digital transformation. My role is exciting because I have the opportunity to influence how the market looks. While it has only been sixteen months, I have been a part of many rewarding initiatives at VMware. I have led a dialogue circle on diversity and inclusion, moderated a panel on the same topic at vForum India, and I’ve spoken at various events and worked with multiple local and global teams while solving difficult customer problems.
My previous work experience has been with global organizations across many difference business units including sales, service, management, customer experience, IT and business transformation. Prior to my time at VMware, I gained experience working at Infosys, IBM, Syntel, Fujitsu and Vodafone India Limited. I have done a variety of roles across these organizations, ranging from hard core software development to hard core telecom business management, and I have been in leadership roles for a long time now.
My passion is bringing technology to work for profitable business growth and all of my experiences have contributed to this outcome through multiple digital transformation programs.
VMware Careers: How is VMware different from any other tech company you have worked for?
Misha Joshi: I was told by one of my interviewers that VMware is a great company with a start-up like culture. It was only after I had worked here for a few months that I came to realize that this statement was very accurate. We have amazing talent, a very helpful culture and a vast ecosystem. The ways of working are agile; people are empowered and enabled, and leadership support is available through open doors 24×7. I think it’s this open and collaborative environment that makes VMware stand out from other tech companies. The technology innovation, coupled with the freedom to learn and grow is something that’s only spoken of at most other companies. It’s truly implemented here at VMware. Every single day brings new excitement and rewarding challenges. Stories about our work culture are well known and respected.
VMware also has very unique employee benefits; three, which I’ve noted below, stand out to me:
- Take 1: Employees can refresh skills by participating in personal and professional development opportunities sponsored by VMware. I did one myself – a certification course in Influencing & Negotiation strategies from Stanford Graduate School of Business – to lead by example.
- Service learning: Employees receive 40 paid hours each year to contribute their skills and talents within the community.
- Opportunities for learning from global experiences and cultures
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you have moved upwards in your career?
Misha Joshi: Be honest to yourself – know what you can and cannot do, and keep learning. I have always tried to pick up one extra skill/project in every role; it has helped me learn and grow, and it has also showcased what I am capable of. I always encourage my entire team to do the same and am happy to delegate to them so that they are also constantly learning. It’s not just about taking, you also have to give opportunities once you grow up the ladder.
