Adele Yeargan
Austin, Texas
VMware Careers: Adele, can you share how you arrived at this point of your career?
Adele: I’ve truly loved my career journey, mostly because of how it has naturally evolved! My academic interest was in international economics and trade, this led me to explore commodity trading and international cargo shipping. I moved from Canada to the U.S. and started working in the relocation industry, a variation on supply and demand economics, but this time from the lens of workforce management. I traveled extensively setting up supplier networks around the globe, greenfield operations in Hong Kong and London and then running a complex global HR operation before transitioning into corporate HR.
I’ve had the opportunity to manage both small and very large culturally diverse global teams which has taught me so much on how to be an effective leader and collaborator. The other area I really find so interesting is navigating the many complex HR, Legal and Tax compliance concerns blended with the uniquely personal challenges facing relocating employees and their families.
As the future of work changes so must we by exploring a myriad of options to innovate what and how we build our support programs. Truly finding the best ways to optimize HR operations and mobility. I am thrilled to be at VMware where I have the platform to be disruptive and apply a rich lifetime of experiences to such a task.
VMware Careers: What is different about VMware to any other tech company you have worked for?
Adele: The most notable differences for me is the level of collaboration and the willingness to innovate and disrupt! Although there is a speed to execution mindset, it is not at the expense of quality and we have a great commitment to achieving a high level of customer experience excellence for all our stakeholders.
VMware Careers: What has been the biggest lesson you have learned as you moved upwards in your career?
Adele: To always understand the business objectives and appreciate how my role and function can have the biggest impact to enable and facilitate those objectives. With that said, I believe in my skills and expertise and work very hard to articulate how I and my teams can provide a level of “value-add” that will benefit business and HR leadership thus helping them to meet and succeed their goals!
VMware Careers: You are hiring for an exciting new role for your team in Austin, Texas. Tell us more about it.
Adele: We continue to see tremendous business need across the globe to have a forward-thinking and solution-oriented immigration team. The Global Talent Immigration Manager will be pivotal in assessing and designing our immigration program vision. As VMware’s immigration lead you will play a key role within VMware’s Global Employee Mobility Solutions (GEMS) team. The perfect person for this role will thrive in a dynamic environment, embrace the responsibility for successful talent mobility and immigration to ensure our programs enable and facilitate VMware business objectives and talent strategies across the globe. We are looking for an individual who can apply their expertise across the spectrum of mobile and local-hire employee challenges. They should have career experience successfully managing compliance, cost effectiveness and service excellence for stakeholders such as managers, HR and the employee.
VMware Careers: If someone reading this was coming to an interview with you tomorrow for this role, what advice would you offer them to impress you?
Adele: I would tell them to be authentic, to bring their love and pride for the work they do and to share how they drive excellence. I’m really looking for a passionate and tireless thought-leader who can identify areas ripe for change with the creativity and know-how to propose and frame compelling innovative solutions. Someone who has integrity and applies themselves to earn the trust of those they work with and by doing so inspires that behavior in others. A track record of keeping excellent customer experience top of mind and able to maintain that commitment when the “customer” can be a varied, large stakeholder group. When hiring for my teams I always look for an abiding sense of community a willingness to give, to share. In a word I’m looking for someone EPIC2.
You’ve heard what it takes, if you believe that you have what Adele is looking for apply to the Talent Immigration Manager role today.
