“My wife and I always wanted to have children and we knew that we would have to find a non-traditional way. We made sure to have all of the necessary information by going to a local fertility specialist here in Austin. We decided to do In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Now, we have a two-and-a-half-year-old and a ten-month-old. Our journey has opened doors in communicating and sharing with people about IVF and other family planning options. Someone who may not be gay may think to themselves “I didn’t realize what you had to do to have kids.” We found a way to make the dream a reality for our family—but with that, I feel I have a responsibility to educate people about it and I am very open about explaining my experience. When you talk about your experience with family planning, especially with IVF, you learn that there are so many others that struggle. My supportive manager and team truly allowed me to bring my authentic self and share my personal life with my work family.”
