A Passion for Innovation
I have always enjoyed searching for new ways to solve old problems. Watching the evolution of Network Virtualization has provided an incredible vision of the data centers of tomorrow; these are great challenges to be able to tackle.
Every day I get to work to solve problems no one had imagined five years before, and I love it. Better yet, I’m surrounded and inspired by people who feel the same way – I see joy in learning and creativity everywhere.
A Day in the Life at VMware
In the last year, I have transitioned to the new “Platform” team within the Networking & Security Business Unit. We spend our days searching for the emerging patterns in our business unit and turning them into solid, reusable technologies.
At a high level, this can range from consolidating internal provisioning services to researching new customer security models. At a low level, this means plenty of writing and reviewing code, and taking constant advantage of borrowed pens and printer paper.
Empowered to Transform Networking & Security
One of the great ways VMware promotes creativity and collaboration is through its R&D Internal Offsite (RADIO) program. It is an annual event where employees around the globe have the chance to submit and share ideas and proof-of-concepts – and the qualifying papers, posters, and talks are shared at a multi-day offsite event. I’m currently in the process of writing up some projects, so it’s definitely on my mind, but the ideas sparked there last all year!
