Every quarter as VMware employees sit at the All Hands Meeting in Palo Alto, California, names flash across a screen. These names are the names of VMware employees who have worked at VMware for four, eight, and a bold twelve years. Here at VMware, we feel that it is important to recognize and celebrate the individuals who make up this company. The work that our employees have contributed, and the time that they have given for this work has helped us get where we are today.
After VMware went public in 2007, and knowing that we wanted to recognize our employees for their efforts, Diane Greene, former CEO of VMware, discovered the perfect gift and tangible representation for the employees who had been with us for these specific years.
While at an art museum in California, Greene discovered the artist VASA's cubes. Not only were they unique, but they were eerily similar to the three interlocking cubes in VMware's original logo. VASA, a senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles, and internationally renowned sculpture, creates work that explores the three dimensional interaction between light and color.
Today, VMware employees who have worked for four years receive three of VASA's cubes. At eight years of employment, individuals receive a larger version of these three cubes. After working for the company for twelve years, an employee will receive a donation in their honor to a charity of their choice.
There is a letter in the box that holds the VASA cubes from Betsy Sutter, SVP of Human Resources at VMware. One sentence in this letter that sums up our opinions of our employees is this,
"VMware was founded on the belief that every person on the team matters and that what we do would be impossible without you."
Recently, one of our own VMware employees, Sumathindra Rao, Manager of Inside Sales Representatives, took these great photographs of the VASA cubes that he received earlier this year after completing four years here with us. Rao, who started out as an IAR in 2007, and is now heading the IAR Team, had this to say about VMware, "The sheer love for technology brought me to VMware." His experience has given him good exposure to the corporate world, and the fact that we here at VMware can help our customers perform better with less is great!
So no matter if you have been an employee here at VMware for twelve days or twelve years, we appreciate the work that you bring to the table, which helps us to continuously drive technology forward.
