Community Working at VMware

Employee Spotlight: Nora Bekka

Meet Nora Bekkaour fearless National Inside Sales Manager at VMware Canada who was recently selected as an FY19 MVP Award!

Nora has been part of the VMware Canada family for nine years.  In her current role, she leads a team of sales professionals who collaborate with partners to deliver value to Canadian customersacross all segments We took the opportunity to sit down and get her take on #LifeatVMware and what she is seeing in the IT industry.

Q: Congratulations on 9 years at VMware! Now that you’ve been on the team for almost a decade, what would you say is the thing you love most about your job?

NoraI’m happy that I get to work with talented and diverse people who create an amazing culture of innovation, best practice sharing, and fun every day – it makes my job more rewarding.

Q: What would you say is unique about working at VMware?

NoraI think it’s a mix of our approach to innovation and our culture. The culture at VMware is truly built by the people that make up our organization across the globe. It is the soul of our businessand everyone is aligned with our EPIC2 values  execution, passion, integrity, customers, and community.  It is this shared culture that makes our business thrive.

As for innovation, ensuring that our customers have the best innovation and the broadest choice is our main focus – and I think that sets us apart in the marketplace.  As a sales manager, for me, it’s about setting our customers up for the greatest success that can be achieved in so many different ways

Q: What advice would you give to newcomers, recent grads, or someone looking to make a career shift into the IT industry?

Nora: Be adaptable. The only constant thing at VMware, and really any IT organization, is change.  To be successful, you need to be constantly learning so you can pivot as the landscape evolves and changes. If you’re passionate about technology, love working with great people, and are ready to hustle, you’ll be prepared for whatever role you are seeking – from sales to solution engineering.

Q: What big trend do you think is driving the industry right now that customers and partners should be watching?

Nora: The cloudand in particular, the shift to hybrid cloud or multi-cloud environments is definitely driving the industry in Canada right now. Consuming technology as a service is revolutionary. I compare today’s cloud environment to being connected to running water and electricity systems versus relying on a generator in your backyard: The cloud gives customers the flexibility to consume IT in a secure environment without having to worry about re-designing, updating, and maintaining their environment.

Q: What VMware service are you most excited about today?

NoraBuilding on the importance of hybrid cloud, I’m most excited about the VMware partnership with AWS and the fact that VMware Cloud on AWS is now available on the AWS Canada Central availability zone.  The ability to keep data residing in Canada has opened the door to hybrid cloud to more Canadian industries, again reinforcing our commitment to bringing more choice and freedom to our customers.

Congratulations Nora on your amazing achievement. We love sharing stories from our growing team of exceptionally talented people at VMware Canada – we can’t wait to share the next one in our Employee Spotlight series! 🍁
