At VMware, a strong part of our core EPIC2 values is a commitment to developing community. As part of that commitment, the VMware Canada team regularly participates in activities across the country to give back in big ways. In November 2017, the Canadian Leadership Team gathered in Vancouver for a Quarterly Business Review, and took time to support the local community.
With the mission to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for women, the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre helps women from all walks of life. The centre provides a safe drop-in spot, self-help programs, and educates by acting as a source of information and referrals for women. The centre runs advocacy programs, HIV community case management services, housing outreach, skills development, victim’s services and many others.
The VMware Canada team volunteered its time by creating care packages for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre. The care packages included essential items such as toiletries and warm socks for the women to use. The team also purchased winter jackets and hooded sweaters and donated all the items as complete packages.
Vancouver-based VMware team member Chris Milne delivered the bags to the centre. “I was proud of being a VMware employee,” he said. “The faces of the workers when they saw what was in the bags was amazing.”
As part of VMware’s commitment to community, we are encouraged to approach one another with open minds and humble hearts. By dedicating our time, talent and energy to causes, we hope to acknowledge our shared connection with the communities where we work and live, and try to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
