As VMworld 2014 Barcelona is just around the corner, it is time for last minute tweaks and registrations of your VMworld schedule. Don’t forget to add PowerCLI automation into your schedule! See below for Group Discussions, Hands on Labs (HOL), Sessions, and Expert-Led Workshops:
Updates Highlighted in Red below
They are back ! Faster, higher, stronger. After delivering last year’s #1 session, Alan (being presented by Brian) and Luc have a new collection of tips, tricks and best practices. If you are into Software Defined Automation, you can’t afford to miss this session. You will take away a bunch of ideas and scripts to implement in your environment and save you time to move onto more interesting challenges. From tags to vCHS, from SRM to the latest PowerShell features, for each of these you will see how PowerCLI is the easiest way to automate your Software Defined Datacenter. And there is of course much, much more!
INF3014-SPO – Wed, Oct 15, 12:30PM-1:30PM – Scriping and Programing Cloud Automation – How To Power Hour – Jonas Rosland / Matt Cowger / Magnus Nilsson
Presented in an un-conference format and driven by audience entries on a whiteboard and live via Twitter, 3 experts in managing large scale VMware-related clouds will answer *your* questions on how to approach managemt using automation and tools. We’ll cover topics ranging from controlling backups with PowerCLI, deploying servers with tools like Puppet and vCenter Orchestrator, building performance collection with Python, and whatever else the audience can think of. This breakout will include both discussions of approaches, as well as recommendations for specific resources, toolkits, modules and the like to solve your problems. Be prepared to take notes and pictures as we whiteboard and discuss live.
HBC1871 – Tues, Oct 14, 5:00PM-6:00PM – Managing Hybrid Cloud Your Way – Marc Umeno / Roshni Pary
In this session learn how you can use your existing investments, processes, and expertise in management and automation tools to manage your resources and workloads in the Hybrid Cloud. (1) Automate the end-to-end delivery and management of infrastructure and applications with vCloud Automation Center (vCAC) (2) Get performance, capacity and health of your infrastructure, operating systems and applications with vCenter Operations Manager (3) Administer virtual resources on vCloud Air with vSphere Client Plug-in (4) Manage vCloud Air resources with 3rd party tools (5) Manage, monitor, automate, and handle life cycle operations for vCloud Air components withPowerCLI.
Automation is an essential component of the Software Defined Datacenter, without an automation solution this is destined for failure. We want to automate it all, from the deployment of the hardware, the hypervisor, the operating systems, and the application. This session will go through a customer story inside Cisco where an automation solution was implemented using PowerUCS, PowerCLI, Razor and Puppet to ensure a successful deployment from end to end. The session is technical, will provide a detailed architecture and methodology used in this customer, and how the solution reduced the deployment time from a number of days to a matter of hours.
This Expert-led Workshop will focus on VMware vCloud Automation Solutions using PowerCLI to accelerate the journey to a lights-out, fully automated, and efficient Software-Defined Datacenter. The Self-paced version of this lab is available anytime the Hands-on Labs are open. This Expert-led Workshop is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The queue forms 30 minutes prior to the start of the Workshop.
Hands On Labs (HOL) :
For those who do not know what the Hands-on-labs are yet, the HOL is a virtualized lab powered by VMware that allows users to spin up specific products or scenarios found in the ‘Labs’ section of the site. Users are given several hours to try out products using your web browser. Each self-paced lab is guided with a manual and is also split into modules, allowing you to take all or part of any given lab.
