Pivotal CF on VMware vSphere: Making it Easier for Developers to Build and Deploy Modern Applications Using Platform as a Service

Posted by Michael Adams

Pivotal today announced the availability of Pivotal CF along with the launch of Pivotal One Services (click here for more details). I am excited to announce that we will begin to resell Pivotal CF in Q4 of 2013 as we outlined at VMworld 2013 San Francisco earlier this year.

What is Pivotal CF and why would a user want it?

Pivotal CF is the commercially supported hybrid Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) based on the Cloud Foundry platform. It provides a turnkey PaaS experience for development teams to rapidly develop, update and grow applications dynamically on a private cloud allowing enterprises to operate at Internet scale for continuous delivery.

Pivotal CF is built on open source Cloud Foundry technology of which VMware is the original source. VMware will continue to invest in its relationship with Pivotal and Pivotal CF to make it easier for developers to build and deploy new applications.

Why is this important to VMware?

Pivotal CF is optimized to run on VMware vSphere, the industry’s leading virtualization platform, and soon will also run on the VMware vCloud Hybrid Service. VMware believes that the combination of Pivotal CF running on VMware vSphere represents the industry’s most powerful platform for building, deploying and scaling modern applications today.

Why is this important to customers?

Apps love vSphere! We have been focused on building infrastructure for modern Web applications for years. We view Pivotal CF as best suited for enterprise customers with an appetite for early-source technologies and with significant net new software development needs. With Pivotal CF, VMware customers can take advantage of the latest trends in application middleware management.
