Logicalis Turns to VMware to Expand Public Cloud Disaster Recovery Features

Technology Solution Provider Relies on VMware’s Site Recovery Manager to Help CIOs Secure Corporate Data in the Cloud More Easily, Cost-Effectively

CIOs reading or watching the news lately are bound to worry about how to protect their companies’ data in the event of a hurricane, earthquake or other disaster like those dominating recent headlines.  A growing trend is to shift disaster recovery (DR) solutions to the cloud.  But at Logicalis, we know that any DR solution must first fit the client’s individual needs.  That’s why we’ve come to rely on VMware in a brand-new feature we’ve recently added to our Enterprise Cloud (EC), an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) offering from the Logicalis cloud portfolio of service offerings.

Logicalis offers two public cloud data center facilities strategically located in Ohio and Arizona, allowing our clients to choose the location that works best for them. These two EC facilities support Logicalis’ coast-to-coast public cloud solutions which include infrastructure as a service (IaaS), protection services, and hosted Exchange.  While data and applications running in Logicalis’ Enterprise Cloud already have the advantage of highly skilled technical personnel, multiple levels of security, uninterruptible power systems, redundant HVAC systems, fire suppression and around-the-clock monitoring and management, we recently added a new feature to support our DR-in-the-cloud offerings.

We noticed a significant increase in the number of businesses using VMware to build virtual servers that reside on their own internal infrastructure.  But what happens to that data in the event of an emergency? It needs to be replicated to protect it, and as part of our overall protection services, we have expanded the DR as a service offering to utilize VMware’s Site Recovery Manager.  CIOs can now replicate their VMware virtualized servers to our Enterprise Cloud more easily and more cost effectively than ever before.

DRaaS with VMware SRM

IT pros currently taking advantage of Logicalis’ DRaaS offering through the Enterprise Cloud can already redirect their own in-house data – virtualized or not – to failover to either of our two EC facilities in Ohio or Arizona.  Through our new “DRaaS with VMware SRM” offering, we’ve added support for VMware’s Site Recovery Manager, giving CIOs a faster and less expensive way to protect the data on VMware-virtualized servers residing on their own in-house infrastructure.  This feature can be controlled on a per-server basis, is fully automated, has easy test/verification tools, and can handle up to 500 virtual machines.   Multiple RPO/RTO combinations are supported so customers can fine-tune their level of protection to their business needs.  And the restoration from cloud to client is automated once the data center is back online.
