The State of Silicon Valley: Sustained Innovation and Growth

Tuesday marked an important milestone in VMware’s history with the grand opening of our expanded Palo Alto campus. Fostering innovation is part of VMware’s DNA and in that spirit, Oliver Roll and the communications team invited several industry luminaries to address the “State of the State of Silicon Valley” by participating in a roundtable discussion. Panelists included:

  • Marc Andreessen, Co-Founder and CEO, Andreessen Horowitz
  • Dave DeWalt, CEO of FireEye
  • Pat Gelsinger, CEO of VMware
  • John Hennessy, President, Stanford University
  • Joe Tucci, Chairman and CEO, EMC

The panel was moderated by CNBC’s Melissa Lee, who asked the panelists plenty of thought-provoking questions. Each participant provided unique insight on a wide variety of hot topics, including tech stocks and investments in Silicon Valley, the “talent war,” the unique attributes that make Silicon Valley such a hotbed of innovation, the current cloud business landscape, and the future of Silicon Valley and related industries. Notably, Melissa asked: Are we in a tech bubble? (Sneak preview: Marc Andreessen is sick of talking about it.)

Following the event, VMware employees gathered to “cut the ribbon” on the newly expanded Palo Alto campus, encompassing about 100 acres and 1.6 million square feet of office and R&D space.

Watch the video to hear the dynamic discussion in full and tune in to a social discussion from noon-1 p.m. PT today with VMware VP of Global Corporate Communications Oliver Roll (@oliverroll) and SiliconANGLE’s John Furrier (@furrier).  They’ll be recapping the panel, discussing a few of the key themes and crowdsourcing questions.
