Microsoft Veteran Tony Scott joins VMware as Chief Information Officer

Today we’re excited to announce Tony Scott is joining VMware as senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO). In this role, Scott will manage VMware’s global information technology organization, a group that manages the critical technology systems supporting the company’s worldwide business operations.


A longtime industry, Scott brings more than 30 years of experience running global IT operations for leading corporations. Most recently, Scott served as corporate vice president and chief information officer of Microsoft Corp, where he was responsible for security, infrastructure, messaging and business applications for all of Microsoft, including support of the product groups, the corporate business groups, and the global sales and marketing organization. Before joining Microsoft, Scott served as senior vice president and chief information officer of The Walt Disney Co., and chief technology officer at General Motors Corp.

Scott will report to Pat Gelsinger, VMware’s chief executive officer and from our announcement “Having a leader of Tony’s caliber join VMware is an example of the talent we are attracting to what is already a world-class VMware team,” Gelsinger said. “Tony will have responsibility for advancing and protecting VMware information assets, leading a team that is helping VMware meet the IT needs of more than 500,000 customers worldwide.”

Tony is a members of CIO magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame, Scott has a bachelor of science in information systems management from the University of San Francisco and also holds a juris doctorate from Santa Clara University.
