Fusion 1.1 beta

VMware Fusion 1.1 beta for Intel Macs is available. New features include DirectX 9.0 3D graphics (without shaders), Unity improvements, iPhone fixes and much more. Workstation, ACE, Player, Server releases

Workstation 6.0.1, ACE 2.0.1, and Player 2.0.1 have all been released. These updates address security issues, introduce new functionality, and broaden guest OS support, including experimental support for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Server 2008 (code name Longhorn).

In addition, Workstation 5.5.5, ACE 1.0.4, Player 1.0.5, and Server 1.0.4 have also been released. These updates address security and functionality issues.

Open Virtual Machine Tools

VMware announced that it has released a majority of VMware Tools as open source software as part of the project Open Virtual Machine Tools. VMware Tools is a set of guest operating system virtualization components that enhance performance and improve management of VMware virtual machines. Open Virtual Machine Tools (open-vm-tools) is hosted at http://open-vm-tools.sourceforge.net, and the source code is available today to enable Linux vendors to integrate open-sourced VMware Tools into upcoming versions of their operating systems.

ESX Server 3i

VMware introduced VMware ESX Server 3i, the industry’s next generation thin hypervisor to be integrated in server hardware from Dell, Fujitsu, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, HP, IBM, NEC and others.

Site Recovery Manager

VMware announced VMware Site Recovery Manager, which uses virtualization to provide end-to-end disaster recovery management and automation across your entire data center.

Virtual Desktop Manager

VMware today announced an end-to-end virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution with the introduction of VMware Virtual Desktop Manager 2, the company’s next generation connection broker.

Foundation Promotion for SMB

VMware has launched a “Foundation Promotion” for small and medium businesses. By combining three licenses of VI3 Starter and VirtualCenter into a bundle listed at $3000, VMware delivers a complete solution for a smaller environment at a cost-effective price. Ben Matheson at The Console Blog says, "The belief that SMB customers need only basic functionality is not true."

ESX Server Patches

New patches for both ESX Server 3.0.x and ESX Server 2.x are now available. Along with functionality and security updates, the 3.0.x patches include an updated esxupdate utility.  The patch download pages and knowledge base entries have also been reorganized for improved usability. An updated driver CD for megaraid_sas 3.0.9 is also available.
