Wrong direction. You added a bunch of features I don’t care about and made the product bigger. I dont care about vsphere or the cloud.
The GUI seems like a step back from vmw7.
I’ve been using vmware workstation since the 3.x line. I do use virtbox and qemu from time to time as well (for different things). I like VMW a lot but you’re moving further and further away from me.. I may not be a customer for much longer.
I love the new VMware Worstation 8. With VMware Workstation 8 it’s the first time I can run a nested 64bit VM on a virtual ESX Host. The new ability to “pass through” Hardware Virtualisation features of the CPU on the Host, VMware calls this “virtual VT”, is a killer feature and an enabler for proper demo lab environments. Now I can actually make proper use of my 8 Cores (Quad Core CPU with Hyperthreading enabled) on my HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop.

It’s not about how the GUI looks. This release is all about new useful features long awaited by professionals who are using VMware Workstation not only to run a Linux VM on Windows, or visa versa, or for some serious testing, but also for building lab environments for training purposes, exam preparation, proof of concept, or product demonstrations.
For me the Upgrade was worth every cent.
