VMware interns contribute their intellectual curiosity, innovative ideas and refreshing enthusiasm to VMware every day. Do you want to know what it would be like to walk in their shoes? Let’s find out with the help of Cork-based Marketing intern Claire Quinn as she shares her unique perspective of the VMware internship experience.
Throughout school I was never certain what I wanted to do with my life. To me it seems like very few people know by the time they finish college. During my studies I learned about creative business strategies and innovative marketing techniques. But what I mostly discovered from these techniques was coming up with new ideas and looking at things from a different perspective. So on a whim I decided to try my hand at business- I found the word ‘innovation’ too enticing to resist. When it came time to do work placement I thought to myself, ‘where could I go that would allow me to bring my ideas to life, encourage my creativity and simultaneously provide a great foundation for my career?’
From my first day at VMware, people treated me as an equal. They saw my hunger to learn and were more than pleased to share their knowledge with me. There is so much opportunity for those to learn and develop; a wide variety of books are available online for free with VMware login credentials, there are occasional training seminars on VMware products to improve your qualifications, even lunchtime yoga classes to help you relax, and much more!
With regards to being a VMware intern all I can say is, what an awesome experience! I couldn’t have asked for a better marketing team to work alongside. My marketing co-workers in both London and the United States have imparted so much information onto me. I have literally expanded my horizon in numerous directions. From working amidst the best sales employees in Ireland, to learning the tech side of things from the support team, it has been an overall well-rounded learning experience.
VMware has been great about providing various activities outside of our work related pursuits to allow the interns to get to know one another. We recently had a team building outing to Oysterhaven, an adventure park by the Irish Sea; we crawled through mud on an obstacle course, swung across zip lines, and went kayaking. We’ve also had great fun creating a video for the intern YouTube competition and came up with silly ideas for the t-shirt design competition.
So what now? With my internship experience under my belt the world appears to truly be my oyster! I am currently writing my thesis for college on ‘Organizational Culture and the Adoption of Innovation’. VMware has proven to be the perfect company to help me convey my thesis points. As soon as I graduate I’m hoping to return to VMware and continue growing my potential, and availing of the great career-progression opportunities. You never know, in ten years time I might be the next CEO! The possibilities are limitless…
